The workshop was organized to develop the Competency Standard (CS) for General Finishing Operation (GFO) trade. Uttoron pioneered this training in Bangladesh to meet the demand for a skilled workforce in the packaging industry. A rapid market assessment conducted by Uttoron project found a massive need for a skilled workforce in the packaging and finishing sector. Therefore, the project signed a tri-partite partnership with RTISC and BGAPMEA in February 2021 to develop a nationally standardized curriculum for this trade and get it approved by NSDA. After a thorough review of the curriculum, the experts suggested developing two separate Competency Standard (CS) for level 2 and level 3 for the trade. It was also suggested that the trade should be renamed as 'Packaging and Finishing Operation'. The standardized national curriculum will create an avenue for other skills development programmes/training institutes to provide training on packaging trade and achieve the National Skills Development Policy (NSDP) of government. BGAPMEA Vice-President (Finance) Monir Uddin Ahmed inaugurated the event. Among the distinguished experts Md. Abdur Razzak, Specialist, National Skills Development Authority of Prime Minister’s Office, attended the workshop as the key resource person. Other prominent participants of the event were Md. Moazzem Hossain Moti, Director, RTISC, Jaglul Haider, CEO RTISC.
