Bolivia faces the challenge of improving its sustainable production and motivating a greater social integration of individuals and families in the economy and in the service, marketing and technology markets. To contribute to the sustainable and inclusive growth of the country, we focus our work on improving the competitiveness of rural areas by applying a market systems development approach. The access to quality technical training for young people and adults in vulnerable situations, is a necessary condition for them to enter the labor market. As a third approach, Swisscontact also strengthens local capacities and knowledge in relation to the Circular Economy and Urban Mobility within the framework of Green Cities. add text

The first hospital in La Paz that manages organic waste

Swisscontact in Bolivia

Swisscontact started working in Bolivia in 1988. Since then, it has implemented various programs and projects that promote inclusive development – economic, social and environmental – offering economically and socially disadvantaged people the opportunity to improve their lives using their own initiative.

Our work focuses on rural development projects, professional technical training, environment and climate change mitigation, which are concentrated in four main areas: Vocational Education and Skills Development, Insertion in the Labour Market, Sustainable Agriculture, Commerce and Green Cities. 

Through our systemic approach and our role as facilitators, we work with a wide network of local stakeholders both in the public and private sector as well as with the academic sector.

MIGIP closing event
After 8 years of supporting sustainable tourism in Southern Laos, Swisscontact held a projectclosing event on December 23, 2020 in Pakse city, Champasak Province, with the ChampasakProvince Department of Information, Culture, and Tourism. The event was chaired by the ProvincialVice-Governor Mr. Malaythong Kommasith and Swisscontact Country Director, RichardRose. Over 45 stakeholders from the local and national government and members of the businesscommunity were in attendance to celebrate the achievements across the southern provincesover the years.

The Journey and Key Achievements of Aire Limpio
The Aire Limpio (Clean Air) Project contributed to the protection of Bolivia’s population, as well as the environment against the effects of air pollution. The results: CO2 emissions have decreased by 370,000 tonnes, and 12 Bolivian cities have designed sustainable mobility plans and are currently implementing them. Aside from this, a national air quality measurement network has been installed. The Aire Limpio project was an SDC project and implemented by Swisscontact from 2003 until 2017.
