The Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training (MoLVT) in collaboration with the Skills Development Programme (SDP), a project of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation, continued its campaign “Green TVET for a Sustainable Future” in Kratie province on 10 May 2022. Around 300 participants from the public and private sectors, NGOs, youth associations, as well as TVET learners and students participated in the event.

To contribute to environmental protection and mitigate the impacts of climate change, Green Education and Training has become a global trend and is high on the agenda of the Cambodian Government. The Directorate General of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (DGTVET) of MoLVT and SDP has initiated the “Green TVET” at the Provincial Training Centres (PTCs) in 5 provinces (Kratie, Stung Treng, Preah Vihear, Rattanakiri, and Mondulkiri) to increase awareness of learners, trainers, and school management on environmental protection and supporting TVET schools as well as businesses to become eco-friendlier and environmentally sustainable.

The launching event aims to inform the population - particularly the young women and men- in Kratie province, about the values of TVET and especially of the necessity to make TVET greener. Simultaneously, it encourages more ecologically responsible behaviour among all by focusing on environmental protection and waste management.

"Green TVET produces not only skilled workforce that can work well, but also enhances the knowledge and skills necessary to meet current and future socio-economic and ecological challenges. We expect that TVET institutions in the five targeted provinces and supported by SDP would become green institutions and role models for other institutions."
H.E Pech Sophorn, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training

A Green TVET Working Group, composed of DGTVET, PTCs, and SDP, has been formed to develop a National Guideline and Implementation Manual for Green TVET. School management and Trainers will have the opportunity to learn how to implement Green TVET at the school level.

“The guideline will encompass guidance and methods for eco-friendly school operations, include green practices in training curricula, and green activities in the communities and workshops. It will feature topics such as energy saving, school gardens, waste management, awareness-raising campaigns, and community outreach projects,” said Christian Volker Ide, Team Leader of SDP, Swisscontact.

This joint endeavour will run from 2021 to 2024. Based on the lessons learned, the National Guideline will be finalised and made available for replication in all TVET schools countrywide.
